North Canton, OH -- Only a week after winning the Grand-Am Cup Grand Sports II driver championship, Joe Nonnamaker has already announced that he will be returning to the class in 2004 to defend his crown.
In 2003, Joe drove with his youngest son Wayne (25) to the title. During the Grand-Am Cup season, Joe had five victories, eleven podiums, and fifteen top five finishes.
For 2004, Joe will be co-driving with his oldest son Will (31) . Will's resume includes the 1999 ST I, 2001 ST II, & 2002 ST II Driver Championships. In addition to his driving Championships, Will is the winningest driver in the history of the Grand Am Cup with thirteen wins in three seasons. Will has made several forays into the GS II class in 2003, resulting in two fourth place finishes and a pole position at Mid-Ohio.
"I am very excited about next season ," enthused Joe Nonnamaker. "This year I had the pleasure of driving with Wayne, and now I will have the opportunity to drive with both of my sons in 2004. The competition in the GS class is very tight. I know that we will have a challenge on our hands to repeat next year. I have all the confidence that our crew can maintain their excellent efforts. In his first official race in the car, Will scored the pole position in the Porsche at Mid Ohio this season. With him as my teammate I truly believe that we can challenge for that top spot again."
In addition to defending his Grand-Am Cup title, Joe will also be driving a Porsche GT3 Cup with Wayne in the Grand American Rolex Series in the SGS class.
"This is a great opportunity to not only step into the GS class but to be able to drive with my Dad ," added Will Nonnamaker. " I gained a lot of experience in the Porsche this year that I hope to put to good use in 2004. Dad and Wayne had a tremendous 2003 season. It will be difficult to duplicate such a season, but as always, our team will do our very best to reach the top rung."
