< Back to News Home Circuit of the Americas a challenging circuit for Drivers

The penultimate event on the 2014 Continental Sports Car Challenge Season will be at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas.  When the circuit 1st came on the schedule, the long twisty track left many drivers working just to remember all the complex turns.  Now a year later, the teams and drivers know which way the track goes.  But this doesn’t mean that the track is any less complex to figure out.

For Team Sahlen, this will be their 1st journey to the track in the Continental series, having raced previously at the Circuit of the Americas in 2013 in their ROLEX Prototype racers.

Wayne Nonnamaker shared his thoughts - “On a track like this, everything changes when you switch from high down force prototype to a production based race car.  Turns that were flat out before, are now lifts and turns that were lifts will be flat out now.  You still turn left and right, but the dynamics will change totally.”

Wayne will be joined by his brother Will in the #42 racer.  Will also drove at the Texas track in 2013.

“I really enjoyed this Austin based track.  It certainly offers its own challenges.  There are so many unique types of turns, that there are times that you feel like it is 3 different tracks rolled into one.  It will be a challenge to drive and as always a real battle in the tight ST field.” – added Will Nonnamaker

Currently, Team Sahlen leads the ST class standings by 1 point.  A tenuous margin, that will require a strong finish to ensure a chance for the cup at the end of the year.

The race will be at 1:20 pm EDT on September 19th.  The race will be televised tape delayed on Fox Sports 1 at 12 noon EDT on September 28th.
