TheRaceSite.com recently recognized various talents in the Grand Am Cup. The Phoenix team was recognized for various awards. Below you will read the official release from TheRaceSite.com:
At the end of the 2003 season we asked journalists, participants, and officials to vote for various awards in the Grand Am Cup season. The 2003 awards mark the third consecutive year that TheRaceSite.com has awarded these trophies.
The Crew Chief of the Year honor is bestowed upon the Crew Chief that not necessarily had the best on track results, but achieved the best results with the equipment and resources provided to him.
After tabulating all the votes, Trevor Whipple of HRPWorld.com Racing took home the trophy for the Sport Touring II Crew Chief of the Year. Whipple was the Crew Chief on the Sport Touring II Acura Integras campaigned by HRPWorld.com. The HRPWorld.com cars are campaigned by Phoenix ProMotions, the same team responsible for the Planet Earth Motorsports effort in Grand Sport II.
Trevor joined with the Phoenix ProMotions effort in 2000 and has steadily progressed into the role he serves with the team today. The Acuras scored five wins and fifteen podiums as they campaigned for the Sport Touring title.
"There are a lot of people that make this possible," commented Whipple. "Our crew at the track are a great benefit and Mike (Thomas) has helped me learn a lot in the last four years."
As the 2004 season comes upon us Whipple will give up the Acura Intergas for Porsches. The Phoenix ProMotions team made the switch in the off season from campaigning Acura Integras and Porsches to all Porsches. With three cars in the Grand Am Cup Grand Sport class and two cars in the Grand American Rolex Series, Whipple, Thomas, and the band of Phoenix crew will be kept sufficiently busy.
Past winners of the award include:
2001 STII Crew Chief of the Year = Mike Thomas (Phoenix ProMotions)
2002 STII Crew Chief of the Year = Steve Wheeler (Fenton Motorsports)
