The Team Sahlen crew concluded a week long learning process of the new ROLEX GT Class Mazda RX-8s.
The learning process actually started on the 8th, as Jay Chapman and Mike Thomas spent three days at the ROLEX Season Finale at Homestead observing the teams campaigning Mazda RX-8s. This especially included the chance to learn from the SpeedSource team what exactly it takes to run an RX-8 on a race weekend.
After the race weekend was over, Jay & Mike were joined by fellow team members Trevor, Chris and RJ. The trio having drove the RV and Stacker trailer down from Canton, Ohio. On Monday the crew spent 3 days at the SpeedSource shop, re-preping the #69 Mazda. As well, the crew learned all there would be to know to be able to work on the RX-8s.
After the training period was concluded, the crew piled into the RV and cruised North for the 24 hour drive home. And along for the ride was the #69 SpeedSource RX-8. Upon arriving home, the Mazda was unloaded into the shop. The only thing seemed odd was the all familiar Team Sahlen paint scheme to fully indoctoranate the race car into the family.
"The crew is very excited but very tired after a very busy week. Even though we have been racing ROLEX with our Corvettes for 3 years, and have had RX-8s in the KONI ST class, there was a lot to learn. I want to throw out and especially BIG THank You to Sylvain, David and the whole SpeedSource crew for their patience, assistance and hospitality. We are looking forward to a great year in 2010, with the main mission of assisting Mazda in winning the Rolex GT Manufacturers' Crown" - states Jay Chapman, Team Manager
