In racing, it is sometimes possible to take a strong positive from a weekend that ends short. For Team Sahlen, GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event at New Jersey Motortsports Park was such a race.
“We ended up only running 9 laps of the race, due to what we believe to be a heat related issue. So in that sense, the weekend was not so great. But, on the positive side, we had some great promise going into the race. During the practice sessions, we were working hard to find a set-up that would work on this very tight circuit. Then right before Qualifying, we made one last set up change. Amazingly, it speeded us up by 1.5 seconds. This placed up 13th on the grid. But interestingly, I was able to complete 5 laps in a row in qualifying at the 1:35s range. And a majority of the other ST field could only muster 1 lap and then they trailed off into the 1:36s range.” Stated Will Nonnamaker, “Then in the race, very few even made it into the 1:35s, so I am very confident we would have been a strong Top 10 if not Top 5 finisher.”
