Team Sahlen’s Wayne Nonnamaker & Dane Cameron secured a very fine 6th place in the ultra competitive Grand American ROLEX Sports Car Series GT class.
The year was highlighted by a victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and 2 additional podiums throughout the year. That victory for the Rotary may be the last in the history for the venerable engine in worldwide professional racing. And if that is the case, then there could not have been a more poignant track to do this at than Mazda’s home track in the Monterrey area of California.
Only twice during the season did the duo finish outside the top 10 during the 13 race season. Additionally, Wayne & Dane did not suffer from one DNF the entire season. This can be attributed back to two factors; heads up driving and great prep by the Team Sahlen crew.
“It was a great year. We had some ups and some downs during the year. The last race, we were in contention for a Top 3 finish, which would have been marvelous, as it would have also placed us in the Top 3 in the Driver’s title. But it wasn’t to be, and in the end, we are very satisfied with the completion of the year and our current tenure in GT racing.” – shared Wayne Nonnamaker
For 2013, Team Sahlen plans evolve to the Daytona Prototype Class with 2 BMW-Rileys. The “Wayne & Dane Show” will continue forward in the #42 DP. The duo hope to not only duplicate their 6th place finish in the standings, but move up a few spots in the process as well.
