Team Sahlen had lots of fun at this year’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. The Hot Dog Eating Contest on Friday night was a blast, with lots of race fans cheering on the contestants. And as always, Hot Dog Boy was there to cheer both the Kids and Adults event contestants on. Then in the end, each winner had a chance to receive their prizes, trophy and have their picture taken with Hot Dog Boy.
For the race weekend, Team Sahlen had limited time on the track for practice due to many red flags. This led to a difficult Qualifying Session. Despite this limitation, Team Sahlen qualified 14th, only 2 spots behind the 2014 series champion in 12th and 7 spots ahead of the 2013 series champion. Not a bad showing again the past leaders in the series.
The race itself was a complete downpour from start to finish. The #43 entry driven by Joe Sahlen did an excellent job, after starting the race at the back due to a mechanical issue kept him out of Qualifying. Joe had risen all the way up into the Top 20 and handed over to Jeff Segal. Jeff was making quite a charge to the front when the defroster quit working, forcing the car to retire due to visibility. The #42 entry had a solid 1st stint by Will Nonnamaker. Then Wayne Nonnamaker took over and made a strong charge to the front, getting into the Top 10, when an incident put him back to 12th. Then the race was red flagged, and Wayne had limited opportunity to get back out and work his way back to the front.
The Continental Tire Challenge race be aired on FOXSports1 on July 5th at 10 am.
